To Use The Program |
"It might be a good thing to open your eyes
and see."
~Thomas Merton |

The
Merton's Mountain Program (TM) is extremely adaptable and can be
shortened, lengthened or broken into parts as needed. With open
discussions and exercises in journal writing, combined with prayer,
the materials may be done at the parent's / teacher's / reader's
own pace. As a program promoting God's presence, the exercises can
be adapted to reflect more religious material specific to one's
denomination.

In
a young adult setting, such as a retreat or discussion group, or
in the home setting, we recommend a schedule which matches what
you want to get out of the program. Discussions, exercises, journal
writing and contemplative movements can be shortened, omitted or
done outside of the group setting (Homework!).
Likewise,
for more indepth discussion, there is a wealth of material presented
here to build upon - including Merton's books - a deeper study into
the historical figures who influenced him and his message of peace.

For
more structured learning environments, we recommend using this 7-step
/ 7 chapter program each week, with reading / discussion on one
week and exercise / journal time / meditaion on the following week.
As such, this program would typically encompass a 14 week period.
As an adaptable program, it can be shortened, lengthened, or taken
home to work on, thus adjustments to completion can be made.
